Supermodel Stephanie Seymour appears on the fall-winter cover of Vogue Hommes International. She’s wearing a white tailored blouse and looks very nice. She’s also being groped with one hand by male model Marlon Teixeira as he grips her throat with the other. Some of you are going to say, “STUPID HUMORLESS WOMEN HARPIES ALWAYS COMPLAINING” and you’re welcome to feel that way. Just click on any other post now.
For the rest of you, we’d really like to stop seeing images like this. First it was sexualized-since-puberty Hailey Clauson getting “stylishly choked” in Pop, then it was Lana Del Rey on her own cover. No, they aren’t explicitly violent images, but a man with his hands on a woman’s throat certainly alludes to more than lust. The worst aspect of all of this, though, is that fashion photographers are fully aware that these images are right on the razor’s edge of what’s appropriate and know they’re extremely provocative and know that they make a lot of people uncomfortable… and publishing shit like this is a deliberate attempt to harness that controversy in order to sell more magazines.
